NEW PERSPECTIVES ON HIJIKATA’S ANKOKU BUTOH 2015

Participants were invited to join a series of workshops and performance-demonstrations with Koichi and Hiroko Tamano, Yukio Waguri, and SU-EN on the Oga Peninsula. The program offered an opportunity to experience the landscape and spirit of Hijikata Tatsumi’s hometown, with activities held at Dairyūji Temple and the former Oga municipal Kamo Aosa Primary School. Participants were welcomed from the local community, across Japan, and from around the world, with all ages, experience levels, and nationalities encouraged to attend. Alongside intensive workshops, the week included performance-demonstrations, a reading of Hijikata’s Ailing Dancer, and shared gatherings that connected artistic practice with place, history, and community.
